Principal Cloud Platform Engineer

Overview In this role you will lead the development and operation of Verizon’s AI-driven cloud automation platform (ATOM), shaping how networks are deployed and managed. You’ll mentor teams, collaborate with stakeholders, and drive end-to-end delivery to build a unified, intelligent automation layer for wireline and wireless networks. Expect to tackle complex engineering challenges, from autonomous operations to self-healing architectures, with a strong focus on impact and scale. This is a chance to influence platform strategy while working across onshore and offshore teams. Compensation / Benefitshealth, dental, vision insuranceshort- and long-term disabilitylife insurance and AD&D401(k) with company matchpaid holidays and personal daystuition assistance and parental leave Responsibilities Maintain and advance the cloud environment and interface with tenants and peer teams Lead engineering teams through problem-solving, feature implementation, and strategic alignment for automation/orchestration in networks Develop autonomous operations using AI agents for deployments, health checks, audits, and service assurance Transform static procedures into executable, AI-friendly formats (MRO)Consolidate network procedures and workflows into a single automated system Design and implement closed-loop service assurance with real-time telemetry and proactive remediation Partner with business stakeholders to translate complex use cases into scalable platform capabilities (iEN, IP, Transport, VCP, 5G NF)Provide technical leadership across onshore and offshore teams and ensure system stability Perform end-to-end development (design, code, test) leveraging AI tools to optimize delivery and performance Key requirements Degree or 4+ years of work experience 6+ years of relevant experience Experience in Cloud-Native & Automation Architecture with full-stack engineering for resilient apps and AI-driven automation workflows Experience in modular, reusable code architectures (e.g., Jinja 2, YAML, JSON) for infrastructure abstraction Hands-on experience with AWS and GCPProficiency in Python, Linux, and/or Java Script; Git usage Knowledge of Openstack, Kubernetes, Open Shift, or VCP Web Scale Experience with Postgres SQL, MariaDB, or MongoDBExperience with Git Lab CI/CD or equivalent pipelines Familiarity with AI tools and agents (Claude, Claude Code) and agentic AI concepts Telecom domain experience in automation, orchestration and service assurance for wireline and wireless networks (iEN, IP, Transport, Verizon Cloud Platform, 5G NF)Certifications in Agentic AI, ML, or UI/UX (optional)Strong collaboration and mentorship Stakeholder management and cross-functional communication Continuous improvement mindset Cloud-native architectures and automationAI agents and agentic AI concepts Lang Chain, Lang Graph, Lang Flow, MCP Servers
