Staff Platform Software Engineer, AI Enablement

Overview As a Staff Platform Software Engineer at Zipline, you shape the secure, scalable interfaces that connect AI-enabled applications to production systems. You establish the platform’s standards, guardrails, and reference implementations to accelerate safe delivery and reliable operations. You collaborate with Forward Deployed AI Engineers and other teams to turn prototypes into production-ready services. You drive practical, self-service integration patterns that scale across the organization, balancing speed with safety and observability. This role offers impact at global scale in a mission to enable reliable autonomous logistics. Responsibilities Define the paved road for connecting AI-enabled apps and internal tools to production systems and services supporting delivery operations and customer experience. Design and implement reusable APIs, gateways, middleware, and integration patterns that are scalable, secure, observable, and developer-friendly. Partner early with Forward Deployed AI Engineers on high-impact projects to select production-ready integration patterns and move prototypes into supported services. Own technical decisions for integrations accessing protected production boundaries, approving designs or redesigning as needed for safety and reliability. Define and operate platform safeguards (authentication, authorization, rate limiting, observability, alerting, safe failure modes).Establish technical standards and governance for how AI-enabled tools access production systems. Create reference implementations, documentation, and developer experiences that simplify secure adoption. Collaborate with service-owning teams to ensure clear ownership, operational expectations, and sustainable support models. Key requirements 8+ years of software engineering experience at meaningful scale. Deep experience designing developer-facing APIs and distributed systems. Proven ability translating product or operational needs into maintainable production software. Experience building cloud services and event-driven systems (Go, Protobuf, Kafka, API-based architectures).Experience designing for reliability, scale, and safe handling of high-volume or unpredictable traffic.
