Software Development Engineer/Senior Software Development Engineer, Agentic Systems, AI for Drug Discovery

Overview In this role you will help build an agentic molecule-design platform that enables scientists to combine AI agents, ML models, and internal data in coordinated workflows. You’ll deliver production-grade software in a cloud environment, collaborating with engineers, researchers, and product teams to accelerate drug discovery. Your work directly supports scientists by improving workflow reliability, reproducibility, and usability, contributing to Roche’s mission to advance healthcare. Compensation / Benefitsdiscretionary annual bonusbenefits package (as detailed by the company) Responsibilities Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and user-facing apps for the agentic drug design platform Integrate ML models, scientific applications, databases, and internal services into end-to-end workflows Implement agentic capabilities: tool execution, workflow orchestration, state management, evaluation, observability Enable scientists to configure, run, inspect, and reproduce molecule design workflows Deploy models/tools into secure, scalable cloud production environments Write clean, tested code; contribute to automated testing, documentation, code reviews, and CI/CDMonitor services, troubleshoot issues; improve reliability, performance, and usability Collaborate with users to gather needs and translate them into software solutions Contribute to technical design decisions and platform architecture evolution Develop familiarity with drug discovery concepts and apply software engineering best practices Key requirements Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience; 3+ years for Software Engineer, 5+ years for Senior Software Engineer Proficient in Python; strong API design, automated testing, data modeling, and system design Experience delivering production software end-to-end (design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, support)Experience building backend services or cloud-based platform capabilities Comfort with relational databases, asynchronous workflows, containers, version control, and CI/CDAbility to translate user and scientific needs into practical technical solutions; effective cross-functional communication Interest in AI-enabled applications and integrating models, tools, and data into workflows Motivated to deliver software that improves real scientific workflowseffective communicationteam collaborationuser-focused mindset PythonAPI designautomated testing
