Senior Reporter (INDG)

Overview In this role you produce compelling stories with strong leads and framing, breaking exclusives while cultivating sources and conducting probing interviews. You bring deep knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes to bear on complex topics. You collaborate with multimedia and graphics teams, while also serving as a resource for junior reporters. This position anchors high-impact coverage from our Arlington newsroom, contributing to insightful, influential reporting. Responsibilities Craft compelling, publish-ready stories with strong leads and nut graph Break exclusives and cultivate sources through probing interviews Apply in-depth knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes Collaborate with topic, multimedia and graphics teams and work independently as needed Serve as a subject-matter expert and mentor for junior reporters Key requirements Bachelor’s degree and coursework in English or journalism preferred 7 years of journalism experience At least 1 year reporting on legal, tax, or government topicscollaboration and teamworkprobing interviewing and source developmentmentoring and knowledge sharingdeadline-driven, professional communicationin-depth knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes
