Overview Senior Software Engineer – Services to lead a small team while maturing and scaling a cloud-based microservices platform powering customer-facing products. You will influence architectural decisions, drive cross-team collaboration, and contribute hands-on across the full SDLC. The role blends technical leadership with hands-on engineering in a SaaS-like environment. You will help scale systems, improve data flows, and uphold reliability in a fast-growing company. Compensation / Benefitsflexible work-from-home optionsmedical, dental and vision coverage 401(k) with company matchpaid time offfertility support and parental leaveemployee discounts and EAP Responsibilities Lead design, development, testing, deployment, and support for cross-functional initiatives Propose architecture and participate in platform-evolution decisions Coordinate work across services, teams, and project dependencies Collaborate with product managers to assess feasibility and design solutions Design, build, and operate scalable microservices with relational and non-relational databases Develop and integrate RESTful APIs, batch processes, and asynchronous workflows Work with Kafka for event-driven communication across systems Refactor data structures and enable scalable data models and denormalization where suitable Deliver production-ready features end-to-end and manage deployment and ops Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and guidance Review work, identify risks, escalate issues, and keep dependencies aligned Participate in incident response and post-mortems, contribute to reliability practices Contribute to CI/CD improvements and toolchain enhancements Provide technical guidance on integration approaches and architectural tradeoffs Key requirements Approximately 7–10 years of software engineering experience with senior or technical-lead responsibilities Experience leading a small team or coordinating technical delivery of moderately complex projects Strong hands-on experience with Kotlin, Java, Scala, or another JVM-based language Experience with Spring or Spring Boot; Kotlin/JVM experience preferred Proven track record designing, building, and operating microservices Experience with Kafka or similar messaging technologies; Kafka is critical Hands-on experience with Postgres or other relational databases including data modeling and performance tuning Experience with RESTful APIs, HTTP, and service integration patterns Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and microservices tradeoffs Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or comparable container tech Experience with GCP or another major cloud platform (AWS/Azure acceptable)Exposure to full-stack systems including UI-integrated services, APIs, batch jobs, databases, and asynchronous workflows Strong testing discipline, including automated testing and reliable production systems Ability to understand an existing codebase and communicate across teams Ability to work independently and provide constructive technical leadership Willingness to adopt AI-assisted development tools and workflowsleadership and mentoringeffective communication across engineering, product, QA, and platform teamsability to work independently and make technical decisions Kotlin/JVMSpring/Spring Boot Kafka
