Overview As a Multimedia Journalist for KXAN, you will report on education in Central Texas across all platforms, delivering clear, engaging content with depth and context. You’ll produce, shoot, write, edit, and present stories that inform viewers and reflect KXAN’s in-depth brand. You’ll manage interviews, research background information, and adapt stories to broadcast and digital formats, collaborating with editors to meet editorial standards. You drive impact by investigating local education issues and delivering timely, accurate reporting that resonates with the community. Responsibilities Develop and report stories for broadcast and digital platforms with in-depth context Arrange interviews and gather information from diverse sources Review and edit copy for grammar, style, and accuracy per guidelines Assess notes and events to extract pertinent facts and shape story emphasis Research background information to ensure completeness and precision Pitch and develop story ideas aligned with local community interests Evaluate leads, tips, and assignments with producers to set priorities Verify facts using reference materials and public records Edit and shoot video, producing finished reports for all platforms Adhere to journalistic integrity and production quality standards Write web and eMedia content and engage with audiences on social media Perform special projects as assigned Key requirements Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience Fluency in English Excellent oral and written communication; ability to ad lib when needed Minimum two years’ experience in news reporting; education reporting preferred Strong on-air presence Proficiency with office equipment and basic technology Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, and prioritize Valid driver’s license with good driving record Flexibility to work any shiftclear and engaging communicationstrong editorial judgmentability to work under deadlinesshooting videovideo editingstory production for multiple platforms
